An intensive heatwave has affected most areas of Pakistan with extreme rise in  temperatures in May 2025. The   Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)   has warned that the   extreme heat   is expected to continue until   at least May 19, 2025  .

The   highest temperatures   have been reported in   Sindh  , where   Dadu   and   Sukkur   reached  up to   43°C  . Other cities such as   Larkana, Jacobabad, and Bhakkar   recorded   42°C  , while   Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and Sahiwal   experienced   41°C  .

In   Lahore  , the temperature hit   39°C  ,   Peshawar   recorded   38°C  , and   Islamabad   reached   37°C.   Karachi   was better at   34°C  , but   high humidity   made it feel like   39°C  .

According to the PMD,   temperatures will remain 5 to 7°C above normal   in areas such as   central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan   until   May 19, 2025  . In   Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, temperatures are expected to be   4 to 6°C above average   until   May 20, 2025  .

  Health experts   have advised people to:

    Drink plenty of water 

    Avoid going out during peak heat hours 

    Stay indoors   as much as possible to prevent heat-related illnesses

There is some   hope for relief  . The PMD predicts a   westerly weather system   will arrive on   May 19, 2025  , bringing   rain   to   Kashmir, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan   on   May 19 and 20, 2025  .

  Authorities   are urging everyone to stay alert and take all necessary precautions during this period of   extreme weather.
